Update: The Federal Court has declared these cuts unconstitutional, saying that they constitute “cruel and unusual” treatment. Christie Blatchford denounced the cuts in the National Post, saying that they represent the “deliberate heartlessness… and… boneheaded ineptness” of the Conservative government.

I recently had the chance to respond to a letter to the editor in the Kingston Whig-Standard from Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Costas Menegakis, regarding refugee health care cuts.

Here is Mr. Menegakis’ letter:

Refugee June 23 2014

And here is my response, published two days later, on June 25th:

Letter Refugee Health June 25, 2014

I think it is important to have the opportunity to respond to public policy both in the House of Commons and in the public square. I will continue to champion for necessary health care services for those in need.
