I am pleased to receive the support of the Toronto Region Board of Trade for Bill C-626, which reinstates the mandatory long-form census. The Board of Trade clearly explains why census data is critically important to enhancing economic prosperity and quality of life:

“Canada’s economic prosperity and high-quality of life is contingent on fostering a world-leading labour force. One way of achieving this is through access to superior labour market information at the local level. From this perspective, the Board sees promise in Bill C-626,  which seeks to reintroduce the long-forum census starting in 2016. The Board applauds this legislation for acknowledging the importance of collecting detailed geographic data for local governments, businesses and postsecondary institutions.” — Toronto Region Board of Trade, November 2014
